One of the smartest things that you can do for your business when using technology and new media is to remind yourself constantly that social media is not about marketing, advertising, content, links, ROI, or statistics.

Social Media is About People.

We can’t say that enough here at SB. With all the talk about tips, tricks, and techniques on how to use social media, we’ve become entrenched in our own garbage. We’ve become ingrown and would rather talk about content and links than people and cultures.

Ask yourself as a business owner: do you focus more on your marketing than your customers? In my experience, if you look after the customers, the marketing takes care of itself. But if you’re so worried about corporate branding, logos, followers, and which URL-shortener to use for the best statistics, you’ve missed the point.

Social media is about people. Flesh & blood people. To miss that is to miss their business. And that’s just dumb biz.
